GRAMMAR: MODAL VERBS

Modal verbs are verbs like: can, could, would, should, must, have to, may, might.
They are different from normal verbs. They all express something (e.g. ability, advice...)

  1. no -s for the third singular (e.g. he can go - not he can goes)
  2. they are helping verbs and make questions by inversion (e.g. Can he go..?)
  3. we always use the infinitive of another verb (without 'to') after them
